Timetables: lessons and trains

Read school and train timetables: when does a lesson end, how long is a break or a trip, which train to take.

Guide

Russian schools teach timetables in Grade 3 as part of mathematical information: tables with data in rows (the lesson timetable, a train timetable), together with time: start, end and duration of an event.

The timetable is written in the problem. To find when an event ends, add the duration to the start: first up to the next whole hour, then the rest. To find a duration, count the same way from the start to the end: 10:20 → 11:00 is 40 minutes, → 12:00 another 60, → 12:05 another 5; 105 minutes in all.

Minutes cannot be subtracted digit by digit like ordinary numbers: an hour has 60 minutes. A train is chosen by the conditions: for example, arrive no later than a given time, and as late as possible.
