Comparing fractions

Which fraction is bigger? Line the bars up and see whose shading goes further.

Guide

The bars are the same length and sit one under the other. The bar whose shading goes further shows the bigger fraction.

The answers are written like in a maths book: the open mouth of the sign always faces the bigger fraction.

If the denominators are different, use + to split the bars into smaller parts until they have the same number of parts. This is called writing fractions with a common denominator, and the new denominator is the common denominator. Then you only need to compare the numerators.
