Drawing on squared paper
Draw on squared paper as in an exercise book: a segment of a given length, a square, a rectangle and a shape with a given perimeter.
- Germany: grade 1
- Russia: grade 2
Guide
Russian schools teach drawing a segment, a square and a rectangle on squared paper in Grades 1–2, and the perimeter of a rectangle in Grades 2–3. Length is counted in squares: here the unit is one side of a square.
The shapes are drawn on grid points, where the lines cross. To draw a segment, tap two grid points. To draw a square or a rectangle, tap the grid points in order and finish on the first point. The numbers beside the sides show the length in squares.
A square has four equal sides; a rectangle has equal opposite sides. The perimeter is the sum of all the sides: for a rectangle with sides 4 and 2 it is (4 + 2) · 2 = 12 squares.
