Ukrainian Algebra 7 (§§ 21 and 23) teaches this: ways of defining a function and the linear function.
A function can be given by a formula, a table, a graph or in words. All the values x takes are the domain; all the values y takes are the range.
A linear function is y = kx + b, where k and b are numbers. Its graph is a straight line. The coefficient k shows how y changes when x goes up by 1, and b is the value of y at x = 0. If b = 0 it is direct proportion y = kx.
The zero of a function is the value of x where y = 0. The graph meets the x-axis at (x, 0). Read the sign from the graph: where it is above the x-axis, y > 0.
Ukrainian books write a point as (x; y) with a semicolon: first the abscissa, then the ordinate.
