Structure of terms and order of operations
Name the main operation of a term, do the steps in the right order and put brackets to change the result.

Guide
A term like 3 · (4 + 5) is built from smaller terms. The operation you do last is the main operation. Here it is the multiplication, so the term is a product with the factors 3 and (4 + 5). In 12 − (3 + 4) the last operation is a subtraction: the term is a difference.
Names: the result of an addition is a sum, of a subtraction a difference, of a multiplication a product and of a division a quotient. Brackets first, then multiplication and division before addition and subtraction ("Punkt vor Strich"). Otherwise you work from left to right.
In the missions you name the main operation, tap the steps in the right order, calculate line by line (each line equals the one before) and put brackets to get a given value. In German books the multiplication sign is a raised dot and the division sign is a colon.
