Point, straight line, curve, ray, segment, broken line

Find points, straight lines and curves in a picture. Name the parts of a line that points make and measure the length of a broken line. Ukrainian grade 1.

Guide

A studio for Ukrainian grade 1 (the NUS textbook «Exploring geometric figures»). A point is a very small mark. A straight line is a line that does not bend: think of a stretched string. A curve is a line that bends, for example a wavy line or an oval.

One point on a straight line divides it into two parts: a ray and a ray. Two points divide the line into three parts: a ray, a segment, a ray. A segment has two ends, a ray has only one end.

A broken line is made of segments joined end to end. To find its length add the lengths of all its segments: 2cm + 3cm + 4cm = 9cm.
