problem solving: grade 7 strategies

Practise systematic listing, sub-problems and simpler problems with money problems and larger numbers.

Guide

This studio follows the strategies of chapter 1 of the Iranian Grade 7 book: making a pattern, sub-problems and a simpler problem. The steps are the same: understand the problem, choose a strategy, solve it and check your answer.

Making a pattern: so that no case is missed, write the cases in order in a table and find the pattern, for example by making the first number one bigger each time.

break into smaller steps (sub-problems): split the big problem into smaller ones and use the answer of each part in the next.

solve a simpler problem: round big numbers to see which operation is needed, then solve with the real numbers.
