Number patterns: Päckchen, ANNA numbers and number walls

Continue structured sums, find the rule, build ANNA numbers and work out a missing brick in a number wall.

Guide

In Bavarian primary school (Jahrgangsstufe 1/2 and 3/4) children explore "strukturierte Päckchen": a row of sums in which one number changes in a regular way. If both addends grow by 1 (3 + 4, 4 + 5, 5 + 6) the result grows by 2. If one grows and the other shrinks by the same amount (9 + 1, 8 + 2, 7 + 3) the result stays the same.

ANNA numbers are a pattern game: take a number, reverse its digits and add (57 + 75 = 132), then repeat with the result until the number reads the same forwards and backwards (132 + 231 = 363).

In a number wall (Zahlenmauer) every brick is the sum of the two bricks under it. To find a missing brick on the bottom, work backwards with the inverse operation. In this studio the wall is described in words and its bottom row is shown as a row of numbers.
