Collecting data, tallies and pictograms

Ask the class, count with tally marks and draw a pictogram.

Guide

This studio follows Year 2 statistics: tally charts, simple tables and pictograms. Read the sentences aloud if your child is still learning to read.

tally marks: one line for each answer. The fifth line goes across the other four, so the marks come in groups of five. Groups of five are quicker to count: 5, 10, then the rest.

In a pictogram one picture can stand for more than one thing. The key under the chart says how many. If one picture stands for 2, half a picture stands for 1.

Charts always run from left to right.
